The Waves in Time Family & Local History Conference & Fair is being held on the 24 – 26 May 2019 at VENUE 114 (formerly known as Lake Kawana Community Centre) located at Bokarina on the beautiful Sunshine Coast.
The three day event will begin on Friday with a full morning of free public talks on family history themes of interest to researchers from beginners to more experienced such as Ancestry, Trove and FamilySearch. The afternoon program will comprise three workshops. The free family history fair will continue throughout the weekend.
On Friday evening there will be a Welcome Function for conference delegates. We hope that the launch of a Queensland book will be included.
Saturday will begin with a keynote speaker followed by a full day of talks by local and interstate presenters on various aspects of family history research. A parallel stream of talks on local Queensland history will also be presented.
A Conference Dinner will be held at a venue overlooking the water.
Sunday will begin with a keynote speaker and be followed by three presentations in the two streams (family and local history). The conference will finish about midday.
The Annual General Meeting of History Queensland Inc. will be held early afternoon attended by History Queensland delegates.

This is the 3rd Queensland State Family & Local History Conference and in 2019 it will be hosted by Caloundra Family History Research Inc. with the support of History Queensland.
The conference is proudly supported by the Sunshine Coast Council’s grants program and Cultural Heritage Levy.
With community interest in family & local history being a popular pastime the weekend long free family history fair and free Friday classes and workshops are an opportunity for the local community too attend. There will be an interesting and diverse range of excellent speakers in parallel streams of family and local history on Saturday and Sunday.
VENUE 114 (Lake Kawana Community Centre)
The location of the conference 114 Sportsmans Parade, Bokarina on the edge of Lake Kawana. Best described by the Sunshine Coast Council, “Lake Kawana Community Centre is a multi-functional, diverse facility which provides a place for the community to create, express and celebrate its culture.
This modern venue is a focal point for the local community, not-for profit organisations and commercial entities to develop cohesion, cultural identity and a sense of place and can simultaneously accommodate a variety of uses and events with the 15 different spaces for hire.”
The venue is all on one level and all areas are accessible for those with special needs.
